Vineyards

Indulge in some of Australia’s finest food and wine as you explore the marvellous North East Victorian Wine Region, stopping along the way at wineries and breweries such as Baileys, Morrisons, Auldstone and Booths. The North East Victorian Wine Region takes in Rutherglen, Glenrowan, Beechworth and King Valley wineries. Be sure to sample some of the local produce too!

Benalla Botanical Gardens

The Benalla Botanical Gardens are significant because much of their original layout remains intact and are notably unusual for their combination of ornamental gardens, with a large oval described as the most picturesque cricket ground in the country. The Rose Garden, first established in 1959, is an icon in Benalla. Rose fanciers will find a notable collection of modern varieties, including Australian roses, seldom found in public gardens.

Benalla Art Gallery

The Benalla Art Gallery presents an exhibition program of Australian art in the Bennett Gallery, in addition to the permanent collection which includes elements of the region’s history and recounting an Australian-European settlement story. The collection continues to develop with recent acquisitions including outstanding Indigenous works and contemporary media postmodernist works.

Benalla Costume and Kelly Museum

The Benalla Costume and Kelly Museum is the only public costume museum of its kind in Victoria. The museum specialises in costumes and local history, including the Ned Kelly Story. The Historical Society also has a ‘Research Room’ in the Museum in which early newspapers dating back to the 1800’s, books, documents, and pictures are stored.

Winton Motor Raceway

Winton Motor Raceway, known as The Nation’s Action Track, is regional Victoria’s premier motorsport venue. WMR operates 7 days a week and welcomes visitors. www.wintonraceway.com.au
